If you love blues music like we do, you’ve come to the right place.
Do you like to go out and hear live blues music? Have you been frustrated by the listings at other websites or social media? Are you missing out on great blues shows? Are you always sure that a band is really blues?
The Cincy Blues Society has been publishing blues event listings since its beginning. The event listings are the most complete blues listings in our area. Let’s face it, musicians aren’t always the best at promoting themselves, which is why other sites are lacking. Our volunteers contact the local blues bands every week, and also research all the national touring acts, so you can have the best information available.
The Blues Society Effect
The Cincy Blues Society was formed in 1990 by an all volunteer group of blues music aficionados, to promote and preserve blues music in the Greater Cincinnati area. Our first objective was to produce an outdoor blues festival to bring national touring acts to the area and show that there was an audience for blues music. This came to fruition within the first few years.
On the 10th anniversary of the Society in 2000, an analysis of the area blues scene showed that the scene had grown from about 7 blues acts, 4 clubs, and one blues jam with a handful of national touring bands coming to our area, to about 40 bands, 30 clubs, a jam most every night of the week, and a constant stream of national touring acts. That’s approximately a six fold increase!
Today, the area blues music scene remains at about this same size, showing that the presence of a Blues Society is a catalyst for a healthy local scene.
What about the future of blues music?
We have that covered too. Our Blues in the Schools program not only introduces children to blues music which they probably wouldn’t hear otherwise, it also teaches the history. Children who are interested in playing an instrument can receive blues music lessons and will be able to perform at the Cincy Blues Fest and other events throughout the year. Several of our brightest young graduates have successfully formed their own blues bands and still perform today.
