WHO? Swingfoot Blues Trio is a high-energy acoustic group that doesn’t know it’s not
a complete Chicago or Memphis blues orchestra. David Burk , blues harp and vocals,
has been playing and singing blues and jazz in the Hamilton area for many years. He
has been compared to Fabulous Thunderbirds vocalist and harp man Kim Wilson and to
big band blues shouters like Joe Williams. Guitarist and vocalist Dave Jones hails from
near Detroit, where his band opened for greats like Gatemouth Brown and Blues
Brother Matt “Guitar” Murphy. Dave solos on his acoustic as if it were a Stratocaster and
sings in a laid-back uptown style. Rhythm guitarist and vocalist Tim Sweeten , veteran
Cincinnati rock, pop and jazz performer, currently splits time with jazz-rock unit Captain
Culpepper.
WHAT? Swingfoot Blues Trio covers B.B. King, Muddy Waters and other blues
masters, but mixes in some lesser-known blues and some soul and jazz-tinged pieces.
Their setlists are over 30% original Swingfoot tunes. And anything could
happen–they’ve snuck in old-time roots country, Gypsy swing…
WHERE? Swingfoot Blues Trio has played Richmond, Dayton, Oxford, Eaton and
Cincinnati’s Northside, gigging regularly around Hamilton.
HOW? Swingfoot Blues Trio take their blues seriously, but also put a premium on
entertaining—their pure joy in playing has been contagious with audiences. At a recent
show an audience from teenagers to senior citizens sang along to “Let the Good Times
Roll” while two 8-year-old girls–one in complete Elsa costume with tiara and ponytail
wig–danced down front!
