TWO...TWO...TWO CHALLENGES IN ONE!!
For years we’ve talked about the abundance of Blues Talent that we have in the area. And we’re growing as more artists are discovering how versatile and cool the blues are. So this
year we received 35 applications to perform in our 12th annual Cincy Blues Challenge! That included 25 bands and 10 solo/duo acts --- too many to be judged fairly and objectively on one day in a single event. That would be too much blues music for even the most avid blues fan and would tax the concentration of the conscientious and diligent judges.
What we’ve put together for the fans and artists should work out great. The bands will perform at Germania Park on Sunday, May 23rd. Doors open at 11:00am with music starting
at 12:00 noon. Bring a chair and a friend, but no coolers or pets please. It’s Super Blues, rain or shine show. Admission to the Band Challenge is $15 per person, with Blues Society members getting a $5 discount. Fans under 16 get in Free with a paying adult. Not a member? Join at the Challenge entrance gate and GET IN FREE. One free admission per
each new membership. . Food and drink will be available at Germania Park, 3529 West Kemper Rd in Colerain Township, Ohio.
To get your Memorial Day weekend started we’ll have a second event for the Solo/Duo competition at Mansion Hill on Thursday, May 27th starting at 7:00pm and continue until we’re finished around 10:15pm.
Admission to the Solo/Duo Challenge is $7 per person, with Blues Society members getting a $2 discount. Sorry, but under 21 not allowed. New members can sign up at the door and have the same FREE privileges as above. Doors will open at 6:30pm. They’ll be grilling food and of course they’ll have their drinks available at Mansion Hill Tavern, 502 Washington Avenue in Newport, Kentucky.
As always, each act will play for 15 minutes and will be judged on Blues Content, Instrumental Talent, Vocal Talent, Originality and Stage Presence. First Place Winners in each category will represent the Cincy Blues Society at the 2011 International Blues Challenge in Memphis. Along with the first place winners, more local Blues Bands will also be invited to play at the Cincy Blues Fest, August 6 & 7 at Sawyer Point.
