The musical exploits of Michael “Byrdman” Byrd started November 15, 1968, when he and a close friend went to see The Jimi Hendrix Experience perform at Cincinnati Gardens. “To this day, I haven’t seen a concert as good as that one,” Byrd says…and I’ve seen A LOT of concerts since then…”
Indeed he has. He started playing guitar after the Hendrix show. Many attempts at rock stardom failed. Byrd began dabbling in radio. Then he studied Electronic Engineering at Cincinnati Technical College and Broadcasting at the University of Cincinnati’s College Conservatory of Music. Byrdman had a successful late-night show for 17 years on the Midwest’s largest non-profit public radio network, WKNU/WNKN/WNKE-FM. He continues working in radio, once a month, one of four hosts of Kitty’s Blues, Cincinnati’s longest running Blues Radio show on WAIF-FM 88.3 http://www.waif883.org
In addition to doing radio, Byrdman’s back into playing and singing himself!!! In 2014 Byrd formed Byrdman Blues Band. Byrd is thankful that he has gotten just the right group of guys, with just the right attitude, at the just the right time. The resulting band has been an uplifting experience for both players and audiences alike. We sincerely hope you enjoy their performance.
