My name is Joe Augustin. I am an eclectic folk blues singer-songwriter with indie rock roots, who performs and records under the name Achilles Tenderloin. My music is notable for its heavily textured lyrics, passionate vocals and unique guitar style.
My latest EP, Blind Oedi and the Case of the Secret Carnival (2012) features a variety of styles, ranging from guitar driven blues to lyrically charged American folk. The songs are largely confessional. Some tell stories, while others sketch emotional landscapes.
My blues influences range from Skip James to Nina Simone, but I also draw inspiration from artists and songwriters in many other genres, including Joanna Newsom, Leonard Cohen, The Toadies, Social Distortion and Kim Deal, to name a few favorites.
I currently live in Richmond, IN, and play regularly in an increasing number of venues around Eastern Indiana, Western Ohio and Northern Kentucky. Richmond is home of historic label Gennett Records, which boasts early recordings by such artists as Blind Lemon Jefferson, Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, Charlie Patton and many others.
