Broke Dogs began only late last year (Nov 2012). The band was started by Rod Griffin to perform one show at a memorial fundraiser for an old friend. He recruited his old childhood friend Denny Redwine to play drums. Rod wasn’t pleased with the groove. He called his former band-mate, bassist Tim Whalen, to fill in the mix and add dimension. Tim and Rod called former band-mate, Keyboardist James Fairchild, to round out the quartet. They rehearsed only four times and had learned 34 songs. The show and event was a complete success.
The band decided to stay together after the benefit show. They booked a series of shows at the Silverton Café in Cincinnati to test the waters. Recently, in March they decided to record a demo and take the music a step further. Through band friend Phil Gatto, they found vocalist Dana Hicks. His voice completed their soulful sound.
