Cincy Blues Fest is back for its "Sweet Sixteen" - the 16th year for this Blues extravaganza, bringing over 50 local, regional, and national acts to Sawyer Point, at the banks of the Ohio River, on August 1 and 2. On Friday August 1, the Fest runs from 5:00 pm until midnight, featuring three stages with only a $7 admission at the gate (Blues Society members free)! The Main Stage hosts Alvin Jett and Phat Noiz, Jimmy Thackery and the Drivers, and headliner to be announced, and the Local Stage proudly presents Cincinnati's finest Blues. This year, the Arches Stage features "AlternaBlues"- Blues influenced, American roots music with performances by locals Jake Speed and the Freddies, Pearlene, headliner Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band, and more. (Click on the Cincy Blues Fest 2008 headline above for more details....)
Saturday, August 2 brings a full day of music with a wide variety of Blues for everyone! Gates open at 2:30 pm with music until midnight- nearly 9 hours of Blues on three stages for only $10 (Blues Society members free)! Kilborn Alley Blues Band, Sugar Blue, Gina Sicilia, and headliner Watermelon Slim and the Workers tear it up on the Main Stage. The Local Stage spotlights more terrific Cincinnati area talent with a hot Hammond B-3 organ tribute as the grand finale. The immensely popular Arches Boogie Woogie Piano stage, one of just a few of its kind in the country, showcases Lisa Otey, Sue Palmer, Wendy DeWitt, Matt Wigler, Bob Seeley, Eden Brent, Marc Braun, Liz Pennock and Dr. Blues, Rob Rio, and much more.
There will be plenty of food and refreshments, Blues-related merchandise, and the best Blues music around! All proceeds go to the Cincy Blues Society to help fund their Blues in the Schools ( BITS ) program, educating area local students from elementary through high school on the history and styles of Blues music.
